Native to (or naturalized in) Oregon:
- Deciduous shrub, 2-8 ft(15) [0.6-2.4(4.6) m] tall, similar width, multi-branched, spreading. Leaves alternate, simple, green to bluish green, pubescent below. Flowers bright pink to purplish pink, rarely white, clove-like scent, petals distinctly pointed, tube short, stamens twice the tube's length; blooms with emerging leaves. Very hardy.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 4. Native range from southwestern Quebec, through New England and northern Ohio and Indiana, west to Tennessee, central Arkansas, southeast Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, also high Appalachians elevations in Virginia (Galle, 1985). Pure forms not commonly available (Galle, 1986)
