Pinus banksiana 'Angell'
Angell Jack Pine
Native to (or naturalized in) Oregon:
Conifer, dwarf, irregular and sprawling growth habit, slightly twisted branchlets, needles kelly-green, shorter the species, about 1 cm. Rate of growth is about 5-7.5 cm per year, more outward than upward. Staking is required to attain an upright form.
Hardy to USDA Zone 2 This selection is from a witch’s broom found by Jerry Morris of Lakewood, Colorado. The original broom was 3 ft tall and wide and 20 ft up the tree. Although it is often listed as ‘Angel’, the unique spelling (‘Angell'), suggests that the broom was found in the vicinity of the Angell Ranch, which is southwest of Denver (Amer. Conifer Society).
