  • Deciduous shrub/small tree, dense, rounded shape, slow growing to 6 ft (1.8 m) tall by 8 ft (2.4 m) wide, densely branched.  Leaves 3-5 lobed, smaller than species type, olive-green, fall color a fine yellow.
  • Sun or medium shade.  Used for small gardens, low hedges, containers, or bonsai.
  • Hardy to USDA Zone 5    Originally described in 1839; in 1943 Arnold Arboretum distributed stock to 5 nurseries.  Sometimes grafted to a standard (Jacobson, 1996).
