Picea mariana 'Aureovariegata'
Variegated Black Spruce
(Picea glauca ‘Aurea’ ?)
Native to (or naturalized in) Oregon:
- Conifer, evergreen tree, normal habit, variegated, needle ends of young foliage yellow-gold.
- Sun or light shade.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 3 Introduced by the Hesse nursery of Germany in about 1909 (Jacobson, 1996). But there is some confusion as to the nomenclature of this selection, according to van Gelderen and van Hoey Smith (1996, p. 401) it has been grown for years as Picea glauca ‘Aurea’.
