  • Conifer, evergreen tree/shrub, narrowly columnar or spindle-form, 15-30 ft (5-9 m) high and 4-8 ft (1.2-2.5 m) wide, branches are rigidly upright.  Needles are dark green above, streaked with dull green and narrow shining midrib below.  Generally it is female, but male flowers appear on isolated branches.
  • Sun or shade.
  • Hardy to USDA Zone (5)6      Discovered in about 1780 by a farmer in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.  Now there are a number of ‘Fastigiata’ types, which include narrower habit, light green and yellow needles, variegated, etc.
