  • Broadleaf deciduous shrub, 8 ft (2.5 m) tall and 6 ft (2 m) wide, dense, upright then arching.  Leaves simple, opposite, elliptic to obovate, 4-8 cm long, base acuminate, margin serrate, dark green, soft-pubescent below, short petiole.  Flowers funnel-shaped, sessile (on a very short stalk), 3-5 per cluster, rosy pink, yellow in throat, blooms in early spring and before W. florida, to which it is similar.
  • Sun to part shade, course leafed, tough plant easy to grow, becomes rangy unless pruned, no serious pests or diseases.
