  • Broadleaf evergreen shrub, densely branched, to 8-10 ft (2.4-3 m) high, width usually less.  Leaves alternate, simple, 7-20 cm long and 2.5-5 cm wide, ovate to obovate to lanceolate, leathery, apex obtuse, base cuneate (wedge-shaped), margin smooth, upper surface glossy green.  Flowers pale yellow, fragrant, 1-5 per cluster, blooms in late spring and summer.  Fruit a capsule, subglobose, about 6 mm in diam., green then brown.
  • Sun to part shade. well-drained soil.  Tolerates pruning, good as a screen or hedge.
  • Hardy to USDA Zone 7   Native to western China.
