About 3 species of perennial, rhizomatous herbs, creeping, horizontal.   Leaves divided, leaflets cordate at base, round at apex, often 3-lobed, undulate.  Flowers in naked clusters, few and small, nodding, 6-petals, white, reflexed and flared, filaments extending beyond the separate anthers (flowers have shooting star or inside-out appearance).  Native range from British Columbia to California.

Vancouveria: named for Capt. George Vancouver (1758-98), British explorer in the Pacific Northwest.
