- Evergreen, deciduous in cold winters, low growing, spreading, 15-30 cm tall, can reach 60 cm. Leaves mostly arise near the ground, compound, 3 leaflets, sometimes 5, shallowly lobed, each leaflet about 4 cm long, similar width, somewhat leathery, glossy dark green above. Flowers in upright clusters of 25-30, white, some lavender, stamens 2 mm.
- Part sun to full shade. Acid soil, rich in organic matter; probably best in cool, moist conditions. To propagate divide plants in the spring or fall.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 6 Native to southwestern Oregon to mid-California
- planipetala: with flat petals.
