- Deciduous shrub, to 1 m tall, bushy, with erect branches. Leaves simple, opposite, 4-15 cm long, oblong-ovate to broadly ovate, dark blue-green, lighter beneath and lacking dark glands. Flowers yellow, 1.5-2 cm wide, star-shaped or cupped. Fruit fleshy, red-brown then usually ripening to black.
