- Evergreen conifer, fast growing to 25 ft tall x 8 ft wide (7.6 x 2.4 m), pyramidal form, dense green foliage in flat sprays.
- Sun or very light shade. May be used as a wind break.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 5 According to Jacobson (1996, p. 178) it originally came from Britain and probably renamed for marketing purposes. Introduced by Monrovia Nursery in 1992, which states that "this 20th century hybrid originating in Ireland", it was given the cultivar name 'Moncal' and the trademarked name of Emerald Isle.
