- Broadleaf deciduous shrub, to about 5 ft tall and wide (1.5 × 1.5 m), open, arching branches. Leaves simple, opposite, oblong-lanceolate, 4-5 cm long, tip long accuminate, margin finely toothed; leaves turn purple in fall. Flowers white with broad pink stripes on the back of the petals, 2 cm across, star-shaped, in upright clusters 5-8 cm long.
- Sun to part shade, any good garden soil is acceptable, regular watering, prune after flowering.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 3? (Monrovia), other authorities list it as Zone 5 or 6!!!
- A hybrid of D. parviflora × D. purpurascens and introduced to commerce in about 1900. It was developed by the famous French nurseryman, Victor Lemoine (1823-1911).
