  • Broadleaf deciduous shrub/tree.  Plant habit compact and outward spreading to semi-weeping, stems twisted, leaves a rich, dark burgundy in spring and summer.  One writer stated that flower development has not been observed, hence winter catkins are absent.  But others have observed male catkins as per the images shown here.
