- Evergreen broadleaf tree with a straight trunk and grey bark. Leaves alternate, simple, more or less heart-shaped, 11-40 cm long and 7-30 cm wide, slightly hairy, the midrib and about four lateral veins radiate from the point of attachment with the petiole. White flowers produced along with pink to reddish new leaves. Fruit is spheroid-globular, brown, about 7 cm in diameter. The tree differs from Aleurites moluccana by having 3-4 rather than 2-lobed fruits.
