Buffaloberry

Three species, all found in North America.  Deciduous or evergreen shrubs or small trees, branches often thorny, covered with small, scruffy scales (lepidote).  Leaves opposite, simple, oblong-ovate to oblong-lanceolate, margain entire, silvery, lepidote, with a petiole.  Dioecious (male and female plants), small flowers appearing before leaves, fruits berry-like.
