Two species of low growing evergreen shrubs.  Leaves opposite, simple, linear, margin entire, often aromatic.  Flowers in short axillary clusters (racemes), densely arranged, bluish to white.  Fruit composed of 4 ovate nutlets.  Native to the Mediterranean region, southern Europe and north Africa.
Rosmarinus: Latin ros, dew and marinus, of the sea; a reference to their marine habitat.
