Several (as many as 9) species of evergreen trees or shrubs.  Leaves alternate, simple, leathery, and glossy green.   Flowers bisexual or unisexual, mostly 5-parted, 10 stamens.  Fruit a group of 5 spreading follicles (star-shaped) containing many seeds.  Native to temperate South America.
Quillaja: the Chilean name for the Soap-bark Tree.
