Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Sasaba'
Sasaba Holly Osmanthus
Native to (or naturalized in) Oregon:
- Broadleaf evergreen shrub, upright, open habit, 3 × 3 ft (0.9 × 0.9 m) in 10 years, to 10 ft (3 m) or more. Leaves are deeply cut and forming stiff, sharp triangular lobes; dark green color with light green veins.
- Sun to part shade. Shear to make more compact. Can make an impenetrable hedge.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 6
- Sasaba: "bamboo leaf" in Japanese
- Oregon State Univ. campus: southeast of ALS and north of LINC
