- Broadleaf deciduous large shrub or small tree, moderate growth rate, the rounded form may reach 15-20 ft tall and 15 ft wide (4.5 -6m, 4.5m). Leaves elliptic to oblong, glossy dark green to 10 cm long, they turn shiny red in western Oregon in autumn. Prolific bloomer. Small light lavender-pink flowers are in terminal clusters about 10-45 cm long to 22 cm wide. Bark is gray to tan and exfoliates with age.
- Full sun, moist well-drained soil; mildew-resistant. In fact ‘Muskogee’ is part of the first group of mildew resistant hybrids that were developed at the U.S. National Arboretum from crosses of L. indica and L. fauriei. The popular 'Natchez', which is also in that group, is white flowered, with cinnamon brown exfoliating bark and orange-red fall color..
