  • Broadleaf evergreen, lax growing ground cover/shrub, 2-3 ft (60-90 cm).  Extremely glossy leaves, leathery, 4 to 6 cm long; reddish purple in winter.  Scarlet fruit in clusters, persist into winter.
  • Sun to light shade.
  • Zone 5    Developed in Germany around 1930.
  • Oregon State Univ. campus: in parking strip at Madison and 11th St.
