Ten species of evergreen shrubs or small trees with small, petalless, fragrant flowers.  Leaves simple, alternate or sub-opposite, usually glossy, margins entire or toothed.  Native to South America, especially Argentina and Chile.
Azara: after J.N. Azara (1734-1804), a Spanish patron of science.
