About 55 species of mostly latex bearing trees.  Leaves are alternate, large, divided, lobed or entire, with large conical stipules.  Male and female flowers are on the same plant (monoecious).  Flowers are small in catkin-like clusters (male) or rounded or oblong heads (female).  Fruit is compound formed from the head of female flowers, inner portion fleshy with large quantities of starch.
