  • Broadleaf evergreen shrub, 4 ft (1.2 m).  Distinctive dark green convex leaves (unlike any other rhododendron), to 7.5 x 2.5 cm, tightly spaced on stem, rosette form.  Flowers deep purple, medium sized, indistinct yellow blotch, small pompom clusters.
  • -15°F, mid-late, quality rating 2-3/4/4 [flower / plant & foliage / performance; scale 1 (poor) - 5 (best)].  Sun to part shade.  Introduced in 1868.
  • Oregon State Univ. campus: south side of Cordley Hall.
