  • Broadleaf deciduous small trees or shrubs, to 25 ft (8 m) tall, branchlets dark purple or purplish brown when old.  Leaves alternate, simple, leaf blade ovate or broadly ovate, 2.5–5 cm by 2–4.5 cm wide, usually irregularly 3–5-lobed; lobes narrowly ovate or narrowly elliptic, apex acute.  Flowers 1–2 cm in diam., petals white, ovate, 8–10 mm, apex rounded, about 20-25 stamens of unequal length, and 3-5 styles.   Fruit yellowish red, subglobose to oblong-ovoid, 6–8 mm in diam., on a 1.5–2 cm stalk.
