  • Deciduous shrub, 8 × 8 (2.4 × 2.4 m), upright, multi-stemmed.  Flowers of a darker red than those of the species type or many other cultivars; larger berries.
  • Sun to part shade
  • Hardy to USDA Zone 3      Originated as a seedling of ‘Latifolia’ in the Arnold Arboretum in 1945.    Caution: Birds spread the seeds and it may become weedy.  The species is considered invasive and is not recommended in many areas.
  • Oregon State Univ. campus: west edge of parking lot east of Avery Lodge on Madison Ave. between 11th and 9th Streets.
