  • Broadleaf evergreen shrub, compact to 3 ft (0.9 m) high, with a greater spread.  Leaves alternate, simple, to 2.5 cm long, pallid green.  Flowers dark blue in tight, 7-12 cm clusters, somewhat reddish in bud, blooms in early summer (June).

  • Hardy to USDA Zone 8        This selection was discovered in 1946 and then named in 1949 by Charles Samms, who found it growing in his Bee Line Nursery in San Dimas (later in Aptos). It is thought to be a hybrid between Ceanothus impressus and a compact form of Ceanothus papillosus . It has long been considered to be one of the best California Lilacs (San Marcos Growers).
